How did Mimio get our name?

MimioHandRaisedRecently a customer asked us the following question: “I have been asked many times how Mimio got its name. Since the name can refer to the older mimeo duplicating machine, people ask why?” We are fortunate because one of the founders of our company happens to be our General Manager, Manny Perez, so we were able to quickly get our answer. Here’s what Manny had to say:

“When Virtual Ink (now Mimio) was first started we were looking for a name for our first product.   Our first product was a device that attached to any whiteboard and allowed the real-time capture of handwritten notes and drawings directly to a connected computer.  The name of this product, “mimio”, is derived from a similar device called a mimeograph.  A mimeograph is an older technology that was used to makes copies of written, drawn, or typed material from a stencil that is fitted around an inked drum.  A fitting name for a product that made copies of what was on a whiteboard.”

That product has evolved into MimioCapture ink recorder and is alive and well today!
