Family Traditions and 3D Printing – A Perfect Combo

Written by Haley Williams | Mon, Jan 17, 2022

J.K. Hileman Elementary School in Queen City, TX recently purchased Robo E3 3D printers and MyStemKits standards-driven STEM curriculum. After a half-day training in October, one teacher quickly jumped in to use this award-winning STEM solution. Let us introduce you to Haley Williams.

My name is Haley Williams, and I am the STEAM/Gifted and Talented Teacher at J.K. Hileman Elementary School in Queen City ISD.

My students recently studied how different countries celebrate Christmas. They also discussed special traditions they have with their families during the holidays. Those traditions were the catalyst to design 3D Christmas ornaments using Tinkercad. Once students perfected their designs, they printed their ornaments through RoboCloud on the Robo E3 printers. The students had so much fun watching the printers go through the process of forming their creation!

Teaching STEAM has been life-changing for me! I love seeing the look of excitement on my students' faces as they work together and problem solve while implementing the engineering design process. I can almost see the “light bulbs” light up when they get an idea! I feel like STEAM also encourages them to think outside of the box, as well as serve as a creative outlet. Their clever inventions never cease to amaze me!

If you have a Robo E3 and/or MyStemKits success story, we'd love to share your story! Comment below.
