Classroom without technologyInteractive Whiteboards vs the Chalkboard

School districts are asked to perform miracles every day. Budgets get squeezed yet an increase in performance is not only expected, it's required. Here at Mimio we get both excited and inspired when we hear about school districts that have found a way to accommodate both reduced budgets and the need for better performance.

Sometimes You Have to Get Creative

Read the story of how the Rockport, MA school system got creative and found ways to support increasing classroom technology, while many other schools were forced to cut back. The Rockport Schools still had chalkboards and overhead projectors in their classrooms! Today the same schools have interactive whiteboards, laptops for their teachers and classrooms of engaged students. Whitney Swanberg, an eighth-grade social studies teacher in Rockport reports:

“They really like it.” “They’re in front of a screen all day anyways – at home, on Facebook, whatever – so being able to do the same process in school really helps them remember more and be more interested because it’s what they’re used to doing.”

I encourage you to read the article and get inspired as I did.
