Have You Ever Thought About Flipping Your Classroom?

ChildAtWhiteboard“Learning should be centered on the student, not the teacher. And isn’t that really what flipped learning is all about? It’s about compelling teachers like me to reflect on our practice and rethink how we reach our students. It’s about encouraging students to set the pace so that truly individualized instruction takes place. It’s about stirring teachers and students alike to change the way they’ve always done things.”

These are some pretty compelling thoughts right? Darren ‘Mike’ McGuire decided to change the way he teaches in his classroom. In 2009 he was given a MimioTeach and he had no idea how that would transform his class. In fact Mike ended up using it and other MimioClassroom educational technology to create a flipped classroom where students were teaching students. He wrote about his experience in this month’s eSchool News. Read the full article.

We’ve also written a case study about Mike and his class at Granby Elementary in Columbus, OH. You can download that for even more information.

We would love to hear what you think about the flipped classroom. Once you’ve read what Mike did, come back and leave us your comments. We’d love to know your thoughts!
