      3D Printing in the Classroom_03.29.2022

There are positive benefits that interactive, hands-on education has on learning such as providing students with multiple opportunities to see the world beyond the classroom walls via real-world connections. STEM education has influenced how teachers guide their students to identify real-world problems, research and design practical solutions, and collaborate and communicate their ideas with others. A STEM tool that has become a familiar fixture in many classrooms and school makerspaces is the 3D printer.

Simply, 3D printing is the process of creating three-dimensional objects by adding layers of material (additive manufacturing) to produce different items. Most are familiar with how 3D printing has revolutionized the construction and manufacturing industries (3D printed houses?! Yes, it’s being done!) and has made a definite impact on medicine and health (surgical instruments, artificial limbs, and more). As STEM education becomes a priority in schools and districts, 3D printing tech has found its niche especially in the design of makerspaces. 3D printers allow learning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts to come out of textbooks and into students’ hands...literally.

To help educators explore how 3D printers can transform teaching and learning at their schools, MimioSTEM by Boxlight has developed a series of Makerspace round table discussions. These free STEM webinars feature SMEs who share their experiences and recommendations for designing a learning space that boosts 21st century skills like critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity via interactive learning. The next MimioSTEM Round Table Discussion focuses on 3D printing – 3D Printing in the Classroom – including tips and project ideas. To join the upcoming round table discussion on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 4PM ET. To register, click here: news.mimio.boxlight.com/stem-rt-registration.

Don’t miss this insightful discussion that will have you leaving with ideas to take back to your class, school, or district.
